Gaughran Chides Marcellino For Voting Against Child Victims Act

(Huntington, NY) Jim Gaughran today slammed Senator Carl Marcellino for voting against the Child Victims Act. This initiative would provide child sex abuse victims the opportunity to hold their abusers accountable for their crimes against defenseless children.

ALBANY — State Senate Republicans are beginning to feel political heat for preventing a vote on legislation that would help victims of child sexual abuse obtain justice.

At least four Democratic candidates for Senate issued statements this week attacking GOP incumbents for opposing the Child Victims Act, which would eliminate the statute of limitations for cases of child sexual abuse and allow a one-year window for victims to revive old civil cases.

“It is outrageous that Carl Marcellino voted against the Child Victims Act and is defending the criminals who abused these defenseless children,” James Gaughran, who is taking on the senator from Nassau County, said in a statement.

Before a statue of his role model, Theodore Roosevelt, and a group of supporters, James Gaughran denounced, on Tuesday, the corruption of government officials in Albany. The current Suffolk County Water Authority chairman, and former Huntington Town councilman, compared the status of Albany today to that of the 19th and 20th century when the infamously corrupt Tammany Hall reigned.

Roosevelt fought against that institution in his early political career. And Gaughran said he plans to fight a similar battle this election season as he runs for the seat in the state’s 5th Senate District.
