HUNTINGTON STATION, NY — State Sen. Jim Gaughran (D-New York) secured $90,000 in state funding for the Huntington Manor Fire District, he announced Wednesday.

Huntington Manor Fire District will use the money to install security cameras outside of the fire station facing the street, and inside the building, according to the news release. The cameras are meant to help bolster safety.

"This critical funding will improve public safety within the Huntington Station community and aid local law enforcement in their mission of deterring crime and responding to criminal behavior," Gaughran stated. "I am proud to secure this $90,000 for the Huntington Manor Fire District to install security cameras. My top priority is the safety of our residents and community, and these cameras will be an invaluable tool towards that."

The Huntington Manor Fire District serves and protects approximately 13 square miles of Huntington Station, Huntington, and Dix Hills. Its firefighters cover more than 17,000 residential homes and more than 2,000 commercial businesses. The department responds to more than 1,000 fire and extrication calls each year. The Department has three fire houses, with a dispatcher on-duty 24/7.

Their current security camera system is more than 20 years old, and uses outdated analog cameras, according to Gaughran's Office. The new funds will be used to install 90 I.P. Cameras, mostly outside the building, as well as inside the station. The camera installation is expected to be completed within the next three weeks. The cameras, monitored by the Huntington Manor Fire District, will run 24/7 and can be used in coordination with local law enforcement.

"This funding is vital to helping protect the greater Huntington Station community," said Chris Fusaro, chairman of the Board of Huntington Manor Fire District. "These cameras will be an invaluable tool towards ensuring the safety of our fire station and the brave men and women who serve in the Huntington Manor Fire District. We would like to thank Senator Gaughran for his support of our first responders and look forward to continuing to work together on behalf of Huntington."

In 2019, Gaughran secured $180,000 for the Town of Huntington to install additional cameras and upgrade its existing camera system throughout the Huntington Station Business Improvement District.
