Frequently Asked Questions

Q: I am nervous about voting in person due to COVID-19, do I have any alternative options?

A: Yes! This year I was proud to help pass S.8015, which allows any voter in New York to check the box on the absentee ballot application that says “temporary illness or physical disability” due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Q: I applied to vote by mail, but my ballot is taking a long time to arrive, how can I check?

A: Mail times may vary. If you are interested in checking on the status of your ballot, you can call your board of elections to inquire.

  • Nassau Board of Elections - (516) 571-8683
  • Suffolk Board of Elections - (631) 852-4500

Q: I applied to vote by mail. Is there a place I can drop off my ballot instead of mailing it back?

A: Yes. If you received a ballot to vote by mail, you can return it to any early vote location, your county board of elections office, or contact the campaign and we can assist.

Q: When can I vote early?

A: You can vote early between October 24th - November 1st. Early vote locations are usually not the same as your regular polling place, and times differ for each community, so please check the appropriate link: Nassau County Voters & Suffolk County Voters

A: To stay safe when voting in-person, we recommend wearing a mask and bringing your own pen to your polling site, practicing social distancing, and using hand sanitizer, when you vote in-person!

Q: I want to request an absentee ballot. What is the deadline to send in an application?

A: October 27 - This is the last day to apply online, by email, fax or to postmark an application or letter of application by mail for an absentee ballot. (Please be warned that despite this deadline, the Post Office has advised they cannot guarantee timely delivery of ballots applied for less than 15 days before an election.)

Q: I never sent in my application OR I never received my ballot. Can I still vote for Jim?

A: If you don’t submit a ballot application in time, you can still vote for Jim Gaughran in-person during early voting (October 24th - November 1st) or on Election Day (November 3rd).
