New York City and Vicinity District Council of Carpenters this week is rolling out a series of endorsements in the statewide races as well as key election contests in the state Legisalture.

The union is backing Public Advocate Letitia James for attorney general as well as the re-election of Comptroller Tom DiNapoli.

James is competing in a four-way primary for the attorney general nomination against Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney, Leecia Eve and Zephyr Teachout.

“Letitia James has always been an ally of labor and a true partner of the District Council. In her role as Public Advocate, James has stood as a champion for workers’ rights in New York City. Her dedication and commitment to public service and justice will enhance the office of attorney general for New York State,” said Joseph Geiger, the union’s executive secretary.

And the labor group is backing Lt. Gov. Kathy Hochul in her primary against Brooklyn Councilman Jumaane Williams.

“Coming from a family of union members, Lt. Gov. Hochul understands our mission and has been a strong partner of the District Council,” Geiger said. “At a time when labor unions are under attack, having allies like Lieutenant Governor Hochul, who fight for fairness for all workers, is critical.”

Meanwhile, the union also is backing Pat Kane and Karines Reyes for the state Assembly. The labor group also endorsed Democrats Jim Gaughran and Monica Martinez running closely watched races for the state Senate on Long Island.
